where I will be holding my retreat in two short weeks!
Hello friends,
This past month went by in the blink of an eye and I mean that in the best and worst way. We have had a lot happening over here and it has required a lot of patience, presence, and surrender. Luckily, the surrender muscle has been strengthened quite well in my system over the years of so much happening in my life, and I am riding the wave - which sometimes feels like being in the washing machine but sometimes also feels like being on the best roller coaster on Earth.
I wasn’t able to make a podcast for April… my deepest apologies, but this month will be jam packed with goodies because I love y’all so much!
My curations are as wild and weird as I am and The April Review is no exception. Metal that will make your heart break open, queer Maori laughter, stunning history, and lots more.
ENJOY!
What I’ve been reading…
Some of you know that I am reading across the globe (I have a current reading project to read a book from every country on Earth), and this is my first Maori novel! Greta and Valdin is really gay, really tender, and really funny. If you like found family and love in all of its mess - I highly recommend checking it out.
I don’t know how to talk about Rejection. It was one of those books that I hated and “enjoyed” at the same time (I put that in quotes because it is real messed up and I don’t know if I actually *enjoyed* that). Short stories that are written in surrealist satire - some more realistic in their suffering than others - all orienting around some kind of romantic rejection. Sharp, uncomfortable, and kinky.
This article on Maori people reclaiming psychedelic mushroom medicine is so beautiful and a powerful testament to what happens when we return to traditional practices that have been lost/erased/eradicated. As the director of the project states, “reclaiming lost knowledge takes courage.” May we all have the courage to do this.
